The American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE)
The American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) are national, non-profit organizations that administer voluntary certification examinations for dispensing opticians and contact lens technicians. Our purposes are to identify qualified eyewear providers by examination, urge growth of optical skills with continuing education, and approve continuing education programs. The ABO/NCLE programs are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) as having met their standards for certifying agencies.
The American Optometric Association
Founded in 1898, the AOA is a federation of state, student and armed forces optometric associations. Through these affiliations, the AOA serves members consisting of optometrists, students of optometry, paraoptometric assistants and technicians. Together, the AOA and its affiliates work to provide the public with quality vision and eye care.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology
The American Academy of Ophthalmology is the largest national membership association of Eye M.D.s. Eye M.D.s are ophthalmologists, medical physicians and osteopathic doctors who provide comprehensive eye care, including medical, surgical and optical care. More than 90 percent of practicing U.S. Eye M.D.s are Academy members, and the Academy has more than 7,000 international members.
